The Haven doula Experience
We take pride in having created an ethnically and culturally diverse group of doulas at Haven. This is done purposefully to best support clients with doulas who are understanding of their individual needs.
Our unique doula training program, starts with an internship where doulas are provided training and immediately given families to support. Our intern doulas work in pairs with a seasoned doula who supports them through their first meetings with clients and first several birth experiences.
We believe to have the biggest impact on both the client's family and our doula's future in the birthing world the best education is experience!
Key Concepts during internship:
*Support to families before, during and after birth.
*Learning thephysical issues that can arise during labor and ways to support those going through it.
*The emotional aspects of an intense experience.
*The ins & outs of the way hospitals treat people in labor and how to best support someone dealing with laboring in one.
Another key ingredient to our internship is learning the "business of being a doula." Doula work is usually a calling, but a calling doesn't pay the bills! So learning how to *discuss your contract with clients *create a support system for your personal life *and bill for your clients* are all keys to working as a doula.
After completing their internship and becoming certified DONA doulas our paid doulas now can have the oppurtunity to lead their own teams.
